  Getting Started With XML

This CD contains all the handouts, exercises, and sample
data for a manual/workshop called Getting Started with XML.

The best places to start are:

    1) getting-started.pdf - found in the
xml-workshop\handout directory, this version of the
workbook is intended for duplex printing

    2) getting-started.html - found in the
xml-workbook\handout directory, this is a version
of the workbook intended for viewing on your screen

    3) http://infomotions.com/musings/getting-started/ -
here you will find the latest version of the workshop
       on the Web

More or less, the CD is designed for Windows users, but
the sample data is non-platform specific. Here's how to
use the CD for Windows folks:

    1) Copy the entire xml-workshop directory to your C
       drive.

    2) Copy the Perl, apache, SWISH-E, libxml, and mysql
directories out of the xml-workshop directory to the
       root of your C drive.

    3) Use the System Control Panel to add the following
text to your PATH environment variable:

       c:\perl\bin\;c:\apache\;c:\swish-e\;c:\libxml\;c:\mysql\bin\;

    4) If you can not use the C drive, then you will
have to modify the PATH statement accordingly.

    5) If none of these options work, then you still
have the option of installing the software using the
       files in the xml-workshop\zips directory.

  Enjoy!
